The 13th century castle ruins sit atop a limestone cliff, towering over the river Cennen and the lush, green valley below. At almost 300 feet high you have breathtaking views across the rolling countryside and along the foothills of Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons). The Black Mountain rises gently to meet the sky to the east and the Fan Brycheiniog mountain ridge is just viewable 9 miles to the north.

There's a natural limestone cave hidden just beneath the castle, reachable from the inside of the castle, down a narrow stone passageway. It's quite a spooky experience and pitch dark, definitely worth exploring, but remember to take a reliable torch!

There are short or long walking options around the castle countryside starting from the car park (see map below), which follow along the meandering river Cennen and lead through peaceful, ancient woodlands. Be prepared for muddy ground and some strenuous hill climbs though!
