Hauntingly beautiful

A vast expanse of mountain ranges at the western end of Bannau Brycheiniog (Formerly Brecon Beacons). Valleys carved by ancient glaciers, isolated lakes linked to myth and legend, mountains towering in excess of 2,000 feet and wild upland expanses. This area is truly a magical walking experience! There are various parking areas around the mountain which are free.

This area is extremely large, for example, a walk from the Quarry car park to Llyn y Fan Fach lake is approximately 5 miles (and don't forget you would have to return again to get back to your car!). Short walks are recommended around the Quarry car park area or a drive directly to the Llyn y Fan Fach car park (very narrow roads en-route though).

The A4069 Mountain Road

The Mountain Road

Main access to the Black Mountain is via the A4069 Mountain Road, this is one of the most scenic stretches of road in Wales. The views across Carmarthenshire and the Brecon Beacons from the mountain top are simply stunning. Don't take your eyes off the road until you reach the viewpoint car park though! It's also a first class cycle route for those seeking a challenge.

The Brecon Beacons (now known by the Welsh name "Bannau Brycheiniog", which the Black Mountain is part of at it's western end), is a breathtaking mountain range in south Wales covering approximately 500 square miles with green valleys, rugged peaks, and expansive moorland. Popular for hiking, exploring waterfalls, wildlife and quaint market towns. An ancient place where dramatic landscapes meet rich Welsh history and culture.
