YOU ARE HERE:   HOME   DINEFWR PARK & CASTLE

A timeless, beautiful parkland

Managed by the National Trust, this amazing park and mansion house is spread over approximately 800 acres of gently rolling Llandeilo countryside. Close by is the impressive, medieval Dinefwr Castle. It's free to walk into the grounds and castle, but there's a fee for parking and entry into Newton House.

19th Century Newton House and Gardens

Central to the park is the impressive 19th century Newton House (built to replace the original mansion house of 1660). Surrounded by a deer park and nature reserve the mansion is open to the public for cafe, shop and museum. It's rooms are lavishly decorated in Victorian/Gothic style with a collection of historic paintings adorning the walls. Displays of all manner of antiquities give you a flavour of times gone by.

Stroll up the hill from the mansion house to 12th century Dinefwr Castle, located in a commanding position above the Tywi valley, there are stunning views from the castle towers looking across Dinefwr park and along the valley floor.

Drive into the main entrance off Carmarthen Road. You can also walk into the area through Penlan Park or the path just north of Llandeilo bridge (on this route you'll come across the disused Llandyfeisant Church, the sites origins date to the 13th century, being later rebuilt in the 19th century).
