YOU ARE HERE: HOME LAUGHARNE
Sleepy and serene Laugharne, untroubled by the hustle and bustle of modern life, little wonder it was chosen by one of Wales's most famous poets, Dylan Thomas, as a last home and place to rest. Parking is pay and display.
The Wales Coast Path runs along the estuary here, with two circular walks to enjoy (see map) branching off to the north and south of the castle, or perhaps follow Dylan Thomas's Birthday Walk starting at the Dylan Thomas Boathouse and following south past the castle and around Ginst Point.
A few of Laugharne's highlights include St. Martins Church, mentioned in records as early as the 15th century and is home to the grave of the poet Dylan Thomas. Along side the car park is Laugharne Castle, the present remains of which date back to the 13th century (although an earlier Norman castle existed here previously) a site of tumultuous conflict between the Normans and Welsh Princes. A short walk northwards from the castle car park is the Dylan Thomas Boathouse now a museum and tribute to the life of the famous poet. Dylan's writing shed still exists, take a peak through the window and see the desk where he penned some of his most famous works.
