Very few places in Wales can boast such an array of attractive locations to spend a day out and be so easily accessible from major road and railway routes. Plenty of open space to enjoy along many miles of sandy beaches such as Cefn Sidan Beach, Pembrey. Perhaps walk the cool, tranquil forests at Pembrey, with Pembrey Country Park here having many family attractions to enjoy. Visit the historical harbour of Burry Port with it's modern marina or nearby old Pembrey Harbour, a remnant of an industrial age gone by, both perfect spots for picinicing or bird watching on the Loughor estuary.

Pwll's Ash Pit Ponds and nearby Sandy Water Park are excellent wildlife stop off points for lakeside walks and wildlife spotting. These areas are frequented by herons, swans, geese, ducks, cormorants, egrets, kingfishers and many more.

Llanelli, another excellent beach location, has a long, promenade fronted, sandy beach overlooking Carmarthen Bay and the Gower Peninsula. Nearby Machynys is definitely the 'wildfowl capital' of Wales being home to the WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre. Llanelli and Machynys have also become popular locations for marathon and triathlon events, keep an eye out for these throughout the year.
