YOU ARE HERE: HOME PENLLERGARE VALLEY WOODLAND
Discover a beautiful profusion of wildlife, exotic plants and waterways, once one of Wales' finest 19th century private estate gardens, now being restored and managed by the Penllergare Woodland Trust and is free for all to enjoy, parking is pay and display (all money goes to woodland maintenance).
You could quite literally lose yourself in the forest whilst exploring the many footpaths meandering through the estate woodland and along the river Llan. The picturesque waterfall near the north lake is a definite stopping point for budding photographers.
The site has two large lakes, served by the river Llan, which attracts plenty of wildlife such as dippers, heron, kingfisher, damselflies, eel, otter, water vole and many more.
The former owner, John Dillwyn Llewellyn (1810-1882), had a passion for growing exotic and unusual flora, azaleas, rhododendrons and exotic trees of many kinds. Some of the giant redwood trees are quite spectacular and the bamboo outcrops are quite unusual.
Woodland tranquility.
